A Person Centered Lens

Amber’s approach to therapy is client-centered. This is a concept developed by Carl Rogers that….

emphasizes the uniqueness of every individual, which is influenced not only by a need to grow but also to develop to our full potential. Like person centered therapy, she believes that individuals can live their best life by being their true self and not being afraid to accept their best and worst qualities which, in turn, allows them to grow. Amber believes clients are capable of discovering their own solutions to their current struggles and maintaining a healthy state of psychological functioning as potential issues arise in the future.

A native Texan, Amber has been passionate about helping individuals have a fulfilled life since she was very young. Amber was always the cheerful little girl walking around to others and telling them “I hope you have a great day today.” Her large family and her family home in the country has always been a safe spot for family to come together and enjoy time away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Learning from her parents - and quite honestly Mr. Rogers - she saw the importance of acceptance, really listening, and valuing the feelings of others, no matter their age.

She has always been someone others could confide in and has a passion to be present for others when they believe they have no one else. She believes the relationship between the counselor and client is of utmost importance so that individuals feel safe to share their thoughts and concerns freely without feeling judged. She creates a safe, accepting, and positive environment that allows clients to feel welcome and willing to work without being afraid to explore their inner selves.

Amber is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin in 2016 (Hook ‘em) with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Communications and holds a Master’s of science in Counseling and Development from Texas Woman’s University.  After graduating TWU in the fall of 2019 with a Master’s of Science in Counseling and Development, she became a 200-hour yoga teacher through The LISPY school, became a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner in 2023, and was fully trained in EMDR in 2024 through Compassion Works.

She also has trainings in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy – all of these trainings might just be words to you, but they will help her understand you as a person and how to can best help you. She will, at times, use expressive arts, mindfulness and/or psychotherapeutic yoga when she sees the potential for it to facilitate therapeutic change, but will only use these tools after having a discussion of your comfortability with them. Although she tells herself to slow down in trainings, she does enjoy learning about the human psyche and finding best ways to help clients.
